The following is a letter written for the purpose of encouraging people in our area to contribute to the needs of the Hemingway Campground. Only a few were sent out.  We are posting it here to make our needs known without pressuring specific individuals to donate.

                                                                                                                September 2004

Dear Friend and/or Alumni of Hemingway Campground,

WE NEED YOUR HELP!  God is moving in a mighty way here in the Hemingway/Johnsonville area.  The Board of the Hemingway Interdenominational Campground feels the call of God to reach out to the young people in our community and surrounding areas.  Satan and his minions are working overtime - teen suicide is at an all time high, drug use, underage drinking, teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases - all continue to rise.   Yes, even in our little towns!

We need to turn the tide for these young people.  It is imperative that they be given the opportunity to hear the Word of God in, and for, their lives.  The Campground is the perfect place to bring groups together to fellowship and worship.  But much is needed to bring a true revival to our community.  Here is where you come in!  We need help in the following areas:

  1. We need your spiritual help.   Pray that God will move the people of this community to a closer relationship with Him.  Pray that workers will be available and ready for the tasks He is calling us to complete.  And last, but not least, pray that the Word of God will reach and move these young people toward salvation.
  2. We need your physical help.   Christian men and women are needed to serve on our Campground Board.  We need people who are willing to give of their time and energy to help with planning and accomplishing activities at the Campground.  Board meetings are held once a month, on the second Monday, at 7:00 PM.  If two heads are better than one, then twelve heads are better than six, and eighteen heads are better than twelve.  Prayerfully consider becoming an 'active' member of the Campground.  Young and old members are needed from all our local denominations.  We also ask that you make an effort to publicize the facilities that are available for use at the campground.  Encourage youth groups, scout troops, family reunions, weekend retreats (large or small).  Information is available on our web site at hemingwaycampground.org.
  3. We need your financial help.   Time and weather take its toll on older buildings.  Funds are needed to continue to keep the Campground facilities in operating condition.  Upgrades and improvements to water and sewer systems are also needed.  Estimates in the range of thirty to forty thousand dollars have been received.  While this sounds like a great sum of money, with God all things are possible.  To meet our goal we need eighty (80) families to pledge $500, 160 families to pledge $250, or 400 families to pledge $100.   Please pray about this need and then contribute and pledge what you can toward the effort.  A pledge card is included for your use.  If all the people whose lives have been touched by Hemingway Campground were to respond to this call for help, what a blessing that would be.
  4. We desire your input.   What improvements do you think need to be made in programs or facilities?   What would your church or group like to see done at the Campground.  Mail your comments to P.O. Box 622, Hemingway, South Carolina, 29554 or email any of the board members.  We are also compiling a history of the Hemingway Campground and would appreciate any memories you would like to share with others.  (Contact Janice Green with memories.)

We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.  Romans 8:28  The Hemingway Interdenominational Campground is here for a purpose, God's purpose.  And we, as His children, are called to work for good to fulfill His mission.  We come from many churches, many communities, many walks of life, but we are all one flock.  "As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after you my sheep," says the Lord.  Ezekiel 34:12

May God Bless You and Keep You, and we hope to hear from you soon!

In Christ,

Hemingway International Campground
