Hemingway Campground

The Rustic Get-Away Place
for Churches and Youth Groups

Established on April 17, 1961 on 10.2 acres of land, and tucked away on a side road just outside of the rural town of Hemingway, SC, is the Hemingway Campground, a place where you can go to leave the rest of the world behind.  But you don't have to feel totally isolated--there are grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, and a post office within a mile or two of the campgrounds.

The Grace Lewis Tabernacle

tabernacle2.jpg (97445 bytes)

The spacious open air Grace Lewis Tabernacle seats approximately 275 people.  It has a large platform on the enclosed end that has room for an organ and piano behind the pulpit plus room to seat a 40 voice choir.  A kneeling rail stands in front of the platform.

To help with cooling, there are a generous number of ceiling fans as well as a shade cloth that hangs down on the sunny side of the Tabernacle.

The reverence of Grace Lewis Tabernacle and its natural surroundings invite a spirit of worship in all who gather here.

The Cafeteria

The Cafeteria has many long tables and comfortably seats approximately 100 people.  The cafeteria has full kitchen facilities with a large gas stove, freezer and refrigerator space.  Paper products and plastic are used for meals, and must be supplied by the users of the campground.   The dining room is cooled by fans, but there is no air or heat.

A comfortable lounge affords a relaxing place for conversation, Bible study and group discussions.

Recreational games such as Foosball and table tennis are also housed in the cafeteria.

Girls' Dorm

The Roy Lambert Memorial is the girl's dorm.  It is a spacious two story building with a total of 17 bedrooms, with two bathrooms upstairs and two bathrooms downstairs.  Large porches both upstairs and downstairs plus a large exhaust fan helps to keep the dorm cool.  The bedrooms include a total of 15 double and 21 single beds. Most have at least one dresser or chest of drawers and a chair.  Several rocking chairs are also available for the porches. No air or heat in this building.

Fees

$50.00/day for the cafeteria
$40.00/day for the tabernacle
$200.00/day for the whole grounds except the four "motel units"
$25.00 for each motel unit.
There is also an up-front partially refundable deposit of $150.00 to schedule. If event is
cancelled more than fifteen days before the event then $100.00 is to be
refunded. If cancelled later than fifteen days before the event there is
no refund.

A couple of notes to keep in mind: This is a primative facility. The
dormatory has no heat and air, only a huge exhaust fan. The motel units

have window air conditioning units. The cafeteria has
screen shutters but no a/c. There is a noisy space heater for cold
weather. So plans need to be for spring or fall. Also, the dormatories do
not have locks on individual room doors. Remember this is set up for youth
camp. There are fairly new double beds in all the rooms thanks to a
generous hotel donation. People will need to bring their own bedding for the
dormitory.
